I’ve Been Hacked – a.k.a. What to do if your porn site has been hacked

So, it looks like one of my servers has been compromised. All of my websites – porn and otherwise have been hacked.

How Have My Websites Been Affected?

There are a number of things that can happen if your website is hacked. It all depends on the motivation of the hacker.

  1. Loss of data – Your hacker might be especially spiteful and if they have the right access to your system they might delete all of your data!! That means all posts, adult videos, links etc.
  2. “Hacked by” messages – This is the “best” kind of hack. In some situations a hacker may just put up a message saying “This site has been hacked by the postman.” This hack basically says, I have a security hole and I better fix it before they do some real damage. It’s like a warning.
  3. Malware Infection – If you’re doing any type of search engine optimization or have any volume of visitors coming to your site this is bad news! This means that the hacker has installed and disguised scripts on your site that will download malware on to the visitors computer. This hack get’s you blocked by the search engines and browsers and basically shuts you down for outside traffic. I got hit with this one.

The malware hack and others can be difficult to get rid of. In my case even if I deleted the malicious code from my pages it would come back.

How do I fix a Hacked Website

This depends on your hack, but in every case the best solution is to restore the entire site from backup. In my case, I noticed the hack too late and my backups had already become infected. So I’m busy deleting and recreating EVERYTHING.

This means that you have to keep a backup of course. You can set this up in your control panel. For directions on how to do this check out this link:

Step 3a – What Hosting Package Should I Choose for My Adult Website

When it all comes down to it, there are really only two types of hosting packages to choose from these days; Windows and Linux. I use Linux and  Citrex usually when hosting adult content.

Because of some of the software we’re going to use to run our website, we want Linux. We need PHP, MySQL, FFMpeg and a few other things that work best on Linux, so make sure you don’t get set up on a Windows account. If you already have Windows hosting, I would  try to setup your site on that then if you end up having troubles, you can always request a switch to Linux.

You can get an appropriate hosting plan by choosing the basic package  here:

Video: Registering a Domain on Godaddy

Hey everyone, this is the first in a series of videos that I’m putting together to help you with all of the steps to creating your own porn site. This one runs through the first step of registering your own domain name. One thing to note is that at 2:28 in the video I say that you can skip all of the godaddy upsells. For this type of website though, you may want to choose the “Private Domain Registration” option. This will make sure that your name and contact information isn’t available to people searching the domain on a who is site.

Click here to get $1.99 .COM domains from GoDaddy.

Try it yourself at Godaddy. Click this link and pay only $1.99 for a real .COM domain name.

Let's Get Back to Business. Start with a $1.99 .COM from GoDaddy.

Step 6 – Get Adult Video Content for Your Site

Now things should start getting a little more exciting. You site is online and it’s time to fill it up with videos for every tom dick and harry to log on and start enjoying!

So, where do we get these videos?

You could grab a camera, put an ad in the paper for some “models” and start shooting. This seems like it would be a whole lot of fun, but not so easily executed AND it would take years to compile the amount of content that some of these other sites have. Redtube.com, xtube.com, youporn.com, xhamster.com, xvideos.com and the like don’t shoot their own adult videos anyways. They all use what we call affiliate content.

And so can you!

There are a number of companies out there that specialize in creating original content and they need people like you and me to promote their programs so they can make money and continue to make more original adult content for the masses to enjoy. In order to further promote their products, they let adult webmasters use portions of it on their websites. AND if someone clicks through your website and purchases one of their products, THEY WILL PAY YOU a tidy commission. That’s a win win situation if I ever saw one.

Here’s more info on  how you can sign up to get your own free affiliate content!

PS. I use AEBN for some of my content needs, click here to sign up with them.

Design Matters – Adult Website Design for SEO and Conversion

Website design is for a lot more than making your site look prettier than a twenty dollar whore. Adult website design or any affiliate content site design should do a number of things for you:

Represent

By represent, I mean reinforce the subject matter of your website.

A good website design will communicate to  visitors that they are in the right place as soon as they arrive. This is the part that most people think about when they think design. This is the colours, the patterns, the imagery, the logo. This is generally he process of dolling up your site to look prettier than a twenty dollar whore.

Be User Friendly

Your design is the only thing that’s gonna help your visitors find their way around your website. This means that it needs to be easy to use. Your visitors are probably at your site to watch videos. You need to make it easy to find the ones they want to watch. This means highly visible category links, suggested next videos easy search etc. The easier it is for them to find videos they like, the longer their going to stick around and the longer you have to try and convert them.

Make You Money

The design can help you make money. In the design you need to lay out consistent, highly visible links to your affiliate sites. This is where you make your money, so I don’t have to tell you that this is a damn important part of the design.

Help You Rank

A well planned design will  will actually help you get better rankings for your adult website in the search engines. This means that your design has been built to leave ample opportunity to do proper on page content optimization.

So What Can You Do?

Well I’ll tell you what I did! I sat down with a pen and paper and drew up some wire frames of how I want my site to work. This is the first step. Let’s call it planning! Click here to read part 2 in this thrilling series – Design Matters Part 2 – Planning Your Adult Website Design!

It’s September and Time to go Back to (Porn Website) School

I don’t know what it is, but I find that it’s just harder to work in the summer. I had a great summer off here, but it’s time to get back to school. Porn website school that is. Time to:

  • brush the dust off of our porn affiliate accounts
  • start building up adult links again and
  • get our traffic in to our sites and out to convert

I’m planning a number of new posts to help you get back on track and motivated to make some money this fall! Hey if anything we should all have a few extra bucks to spend by Christmas time.

Patience vs. Persistence

I think that the biggest roadblock that people face when trying to make a go of it as an adult internet marketer is what I call the patience vs. persistence factor.

For a lot of us, it can be frustrating to build up our rankings in Google only to watch them drop off, then rise again and continue on this roller coaster. It can also be frustrating to watch the clicks come through our adult affiliate accounts but see little or no sales during the initial phases of our launch. The fact is that this is normal. It takes time to get traffic flowing to your site. AND, if you’ve chosen a good niche for your porn site, you will start to see sales in your affiliate accounts.

The key is to:

  1. Understand that this won’t be an overnight success
  2. Be persistent with your efforts

By Being persistent I mean that your should:

  • Continue to build links
  • Continue to add content
  • Continue to try out different ads and affiliate programs
  • Continue to try different methods to convert your traffic
  • Continue to watch your stats and look for ways to increase your rankings

And we both know that this doesn’t take that that much time to do. If you only have one site you’re working with you only need to dedicate an hour or two a week to this. If you keep this up during your growing pains you’ll be a lot further ahead than most and you’ll be rewarded.

Your Homework

So as your first homework assignment of the school year how about we get organized with our marketing efforts. Put together a weekly schedule of all the tasks that you’re going to perform to get you past this hurdle and start making some real money. If yo u like post  your plans here as a comment! I’d love to see what you’ve come up with.

And for those of you that are still trying to decide whether or not you want to try and build an adult website at all, your homework is to get off the pot and get started! What else are you going to do over those long cold wither months ahead?

Step 2: Register your Domain Name

Once you’ve decided on a name you need to register that name with a domain registrar. The registrar is what gives you ownership of your domain name. You can register for as little as 1 year at a time all the way up to a 10 year registration.

If you’re not sure where to register your porn site domain name try GoDaddy (If you buy today you pay only $5.99 for a .COM). They’ve got the best prices and best service if you ever need it!

Domain registration is  inexpensive and I usually only register for 1 year at a time with an automatic renewal. Be careful with this though, because if your credit card expires your domain will not renew at the end of the year and your domain will expire as well.

Let's Get Back to Business. Start with a $1.99 .COM from GoDaddy.

Steps to register:

  1. Type in your desired domain name and TLD here (a tld is the suffix at the end of your domain name: .com, .net, .tv etc)
  2. If your name isn’t available, you can change the TLD or modify the name slightly to something that is available.
  3. Once you’ve found the name you want, set up an account follow the steps to complete the registration.
  4. Do not choose any hosting options at this stage, just register the domain name and nothing else. If you don’t want your name to show up in any public records about this domain, be sure to choose the private registration option.
  5. Keep all emails you get from the registrar and put your login and password in a place where you can find it, even if it’s a year down the road. If you lose this information it will be hard to get it back again later.

Let's Get Back to Business. Start with a $1.99 .COM from GoDaddy.

You’re all set. Now you just need to set up some porn friendly hosting.

UPDATE: Check out the new screen cast video tutorial for registering your domain at godaddy.

Step 4 – Install WordPress the Backbone of your Adult Porn Site

So you have your web hosting set up, you have your domain name, and you have your domain pointing to your web site. You’re ready to install the software that is going to serve as the framework of your soon to be launched porn web site!

WordPress

WordPress is a versatile open source blog engine that is being used for everything from standard content management, to management of blogs like Perez Hilton, to managing adult websites likeBig Boob Tube!  This software is perfect for our new porn site for a couple of reasons:

  1. It’s free
  2. There are a million free plugins available for it. There are even wordpress plugins made fro adult webmasters
  3. It’s stable, reliable and easy to use
  4. It’s free

To install WordPress, you have a couple of options.

If you set up your hosting account with Citrex, or some other hosts that use the Cpanel control panel you can install wordpress directly from the control panel.

Check out a video tutorial of this here.

  1. Login to your control panel
  2. Click on Fantastico de Lux
  3. Then Click on WordPress in the menu on the left
  4. Now follow the instructions to complete your installation
  5. Leave the field “Install in directory” blank
  6. Don’t forget the admin username and password you choose
  7. When this finishes loading, open a new browser window and type in your domain name. If you see a screen that looks like this you’ve successfully installed WordPress!

That should do it. If you don’t have the Fantasico option you might need a little knowledge about FTP to get the job done. The WordPress install file can be found here:

http://wordpress.org/download/

And some instructions for a manual install can be found here:

http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress

Installing this way should give you the same result and with that you’re halfway there!
